
The music program entails a weekly music class for all students. Music appreciation, music history. singing, theory, movement, and elementary composition are some of the topics studied. All students learn to play the recorder in the third grade, and bells are introduce in the 5th grade. We also have a piano lab where middle school students are introduced to beginning piano methods. In addition, an instrumental music is also available for the students in grades 3-8. The students have the opportunity to recieve individualized music lessons and participate in the school's band. John F. Kennedy also has a choir composed of members from the Middle School. They perform throughout the year and are encouraged to play or sing for our school liturgies.
Students participate in an weekly art class with their assigned teacher. The students and teachers use a variety of art materials giving the students an opportunity to express themselves through art and design. The middle school students also have the opportunity to work with a local artist throughout the school year.
In physical education classes, students develop strength and growth through physical activities. Students develop motor skills, an appreciation for the wonders of the human body, health, and a respect for physical fitness. Each class includes warm-up exercises and a physical activity or game.
The technology curriuclum is based on the Diocesan guidelines for technology instruction using the Real Journeys Through Technology program. The students are exposed to Microsoft Office and its application software. Through various projects and activities the students learn how to successful utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Accesss. Basic keyboarding skills are taught in the primary grades and are reinforced thoughout the higher grade levels. Internet use and research are also an intergral part of the curriculum middle school curriculum.
Spanish is an integral part of the curriuculum at John F. Kennedy Catholic School. Emphasis is placed on speaking, listening, and written communication. For the student in kindergarten through fifth grade Spanish is offered once a week. The students in the middle school program participate in spanish lessons four times per week.
